Corrugated Board Guide

Corrugated board is made up of layers of papers combined in varios ways to obtain several cardboard types. The measuring unit of these papers is the grammage, which is the weight in grams per square meter.

Its production is environmentally friendly, 100% eco-friendly and recyclable. These papers are divided in two groups:

Linerboard  (Flat Facing):

This is the flat paper or papers that forms the outer surface of corrugated board and is bonded to the tips of the corrugated flutes.

In ICYP we use high-performance liners:

• Kraft Liner (large fiber)
• White Top Kraft Liner (large fiber)
• Test Liner (recycled)

Corrugated Medium (Fluting):
This paper is formed into flutes and bonded between the linerboards. It is the structural component that provides corrugated board with its strength, rigidity and cushioning properties. At ICYP we offer two types of corrugated medium papers to meet different packaging requirements:

• Conventional Recycled Corrugated Medium
• High-Performance Corrugated Medium for Agricultural Packaging

KRAFT LINER (KL) PAPERS DEFINITION

Papers combined in various ways to obtain several cardboard types constitute corrugated board. The measuring unit of these papers is the grammage, which is the weight in grams per square foot. Its production is environmentally friendly, 100% eco-friendly and recyclable. 

These papers are divided in two groups:

Linerboard (flat face):
This is the flat paper or papers that forms the outer surface of corrugated board and is bonded to the tips of the corrugated flutes

WHITE TOP KRAFT LINER (WTKL) DEFINITION

White top Kraft liner is a two-layer product. The upper layer is made with blanched fiber pulp; the base layer is made with similar fibers in its natural color.

This product offers high-strength properties, much similar to those of kraft liner.

Its white face allows high-quality flexographical prints.

RECYCLED CORRUGATING MEDIUM
DEFINITION

Paper manufactured from DKL* and recycled corrugated boxes.

Its composition is basically recycled fiber (short fiber)

It is used as the corrugating medium in the manufacture of corrugated boxes, although dual-layer paper grades can also be used as liners for packaging that does not need high compression strength. 

*DKL: the offcuts generated during the die-cutting process plus the boxes or cardboard sheets that have never reached the market, generated at the corrugated board plant. 

NORDIC SEMI-CHEMICAL CORRUGATING MEDIUM
DEFINITION

Semi-chemical corrugating medium, made from virgin birch pulp, is one of the highest-performing materials for the manufacture of corrugated boxes.
Its superior strength provides excellent box performance, making it the perfect choice for packaging fresh fruits, vegetables and heavy or fragile productions. In addition, our semi-chemical suppliers also comply with the FSC Certification.

Lightweight with high protection performance: Semi-chemical corrugating medium provides better protection with low grammage in comparison to recycled corrugated paper.

Innovation oportunities: A sustainable substitute of conventional plastic packaging and wood boxes. This packaging is ideal to withstand demanding conditions in temperature, moisture and long trips, such as those encountered during the transportation of fresh fruits and vegetables for export.
